If you have read other books by N. Roberts, expecially the Keys Trilogy, you are going to really love this. It is an exciting, thrilling and suspenseful read. I loved it. I have read all three of the trilogy. Please feel free to contact me.

I came across Marie Corelli via some reference [which I now forget], which linked her into fantasy writing. I once tried reading Marie Corelli's "The Mighty Atom". It is sadly unutterably dull, with no redeeming features. Unfortunately, whatever the importance of what she had to say, she is now nothing more than a curiosity.
Mind you, plenty of contemporary prize-winning novels are equally turgid and pretentious.

I have been a fan of Marie Corelli for over a decade, and I am absolutely amazed at the idea that anyone in today's day and age knows of her works. I have read A Romance of Two Worlds, Ardath, Barabbas, The Sorrows of Satan, The Murder of Delica, Boy, and The Master Christian. I can say that I have never been disappointed in anyone of her novels. The only reason why I signed up is to mention to TREVOR1954, that you must be a very dull and average person. Because, Marie Corelli has an intellect and insight that surpasses many, and if you can't grasp her message I fell very sorry for you.

After having read quite a few books of detective fiction and murder mysteries, without ceasing to be an ardent fan of Agatha Christie, I have come to the conclusion that the true successor to the Queen of Crime is American author Kam Ruble whose latest detective novel, I have read in American media, has been published by Amazon, with a title reading something like "Where have all the Old Ladies Gone?". It is a pity that I have not been able to lay my hands on a copy of the book in some Indian library; if ever I do, I shall be very happy. Vazeeruddin

This is easily one of the best books I have ever read! I love most books on Africa, but this one not only is discriptive, but it has a good story line. Unfortunately, it is not a fairy tail ending, but it dipicts a strong woman, made so by circumstance and hardship.

Very interesting Irish author-----makes you feel as if you were in Ireland and truely part of the story. I am only 1/3 in, so the plot is building slowly. it would be unwise for me to skip ahead, as the eloquence of the writing is what hold you in tightly---but I must admit I am intrigued to do so!

I just read a few comments on Marie Corelli and i wanted to contribute to it. I read Ardath, The Soul Of Lilith and Vendata, i think she is very relevant for today's generation. Only those seeking spiritual evolution can understanding and appreciate her wrting. She actually writes for only evolved species. would love to meet and dicsuss her books with anyone interested.

This was a very interesting look at England during the1700's. Quite a comparison between wealth and politics, and how unemancipated women were, no matter their standing. However rich and thin was definitely better even in that day. Women paid the price for all affairs, and men could do just about what they wanted, even keep a mistress in the same house as a wife!

Verne's Contribution to Science Fiction Literature

I am currently reading "Around the World in 80 Days" in my email subscription. How wonderful to be able to read this classic again, straight from my inbox. Verne would have been amazed. I first started reading Verne when I was a lad of 8 or 9, some 55 years ago or more. Some of his books I haven't read for decades now, and I am excited to be able to read them again as an old man.
We might find it hard these days to think of "Around the World" as science fiction, but in Verne's lifetime, to travel around the world so swiftly was the stuff of fantasy. In showing how it might be done using only reason and careful planning, Jules Verne was clearly in the science fiction field'; he refused to introduce the legendary Seven-League boots into his fiction. He used entirely rational means to achieve his effects. Today of course, we could fly around the world in a couple of days or less. But imagine the excitement of a reader in the 19th century, following the surprising twists and turns of the plot, being along on an amazing journey, with the penultimate disappointment of failing the challenge and then discovering the bet was won by a simple miscalculation on the part of our hero.
There are no spaceships or lasers in the novel, but there is the essence of the sciences in its rational approach to a seemingly-impossible task. This will always be a novel that I think of with a contented smile on my face.
With love under will,
Bob, aka Printaddict, The Wizzard of Jacksonville

yea v.c. andrews was good when 'she' was the one writing.
thing is v.c. had hundreds of book ideas [i believe] that were as far as outlined, so when she passed a ghost writer took her place finishing up her work, the idea was the person chosen would have to be able to conform to her method of writing, so rumor has it her family is the ghost writer, but who knows?
i've read...

good reads *winks*

well i got the first of this series as soon as it came out, was going to wait to read it till the others were released so i could just read them back to back, but my curiosity got the best of me, [side effect of reading 'roberts' books, & if u haven't read the circle triology by nora - it's a must have!]
the trilogy name of this particular series is slippin my mind atm, but honestly i was upset when i read blood brothers thinking i may forget the book before the rest were released, and i couldn't have been more wrong.
this book was capitivating and i could see everything vividly as if i were there or, watching it on a movie screen. that's something i love about her work. she captivates me from the first page.
i would love to discuss this book but i'll comment as others post so as not to post something ahead of time ...
very good read, two thumbs up!

After reading the book, Flatland , I dont think I'll ever look at a square or sphere the same way again ! ( or any geometric shape for that matter) The first half was 'slow', with the explaination of square's home enviroment, but I didn't want to stop reading for the second half. Square seems alot like any of us on 'earth. What we dont understand, we mock....

thank you for the information, I have only read Boddhisatva, I think is the name it is a book he wrote about the life of Buddha. There are other great Existential writers: Kafka, Camus, Sartre. Their writing is also quite interesting, my favorite is Camus. Some of his novels are: The stranger, the Plague(about the bubonic plague in a town in his native Algeria), etc. He also wrote many short stories. chord0
