two of my favorite authors are Asimov in his I, robot stories, and Poul Anderson this last one, he is superb on his historical speculation stories, also some of his novels are really good.

Everyone has less and less time to read, yet books are routinely getting fatter and more "epic" each day while the market for short fiction continues to dry up.
