Tagore is spiritual. Indian spiritualism is not devoid of intellect. It is based on Vedantic philosophy. Vedanta is perfectly logical, there is no abstarct mystical quality attached to it Tagore's essays on education, philosophical observation, travel writings - especially on China, Japan, Korea, his observations of pre-world war II Germany, British colonial rule are based on stark reality. In his novels he appears as a social critique. He had inspired his country, society, and the world with his penetrating intellectual power and not simply by the force of his subjective feelings.
