One authur who really knocked me out was H. P. Lovecraft. His "Dunwich Horror (s)" has remained in my memory for 30 years. A creepy contemporary writer would be Clive Barker. Cheers (and shivvers).

I love the horror of Edgar allan Poe, the movies of it with Vincent Price were very good and full of suspense.
